Felicity Batiks by Kate Spain for Moda Fabrics

It still feels summery around here, but the leaves are beginning to hint at autumn and well, you know what’s coming! I’ve seen so many holiday quilts popping up lately and thought it’d be a great time to share a little more about my “Felicity Batiks” fabric collection for Moda.

Some of you may have seen this range already, but for those of you who have not, this photo gives a lovely overview of the whole collection. As I’m looking at it right now, it might be the most “traditional” color palette of all the holiday lines I’ve ever designed. The colors are as saturated and clear as they look. The batik dyers did an amazing job color-matching and keeping those reds rich and velvety and I absolutely love the pairing of those golds and grey-greens.

Another fun experiment we added to this collection is screenprinting on batiks. And not just any kind of screenprinting … those stars are glittery metallics! The reds and white would be great for 4th of July flag quilts don’t you think?

Last winter, I got on a bit of a sewing kick (doesn’t happen often enough) and I designed Blizzard – a new quilt pattern to go along with Felicity Batiks. I realized after naming it that I probably should have gone with something a bit more perennial, so feel free to call it Blizzard in the winter and something like “Razzle Dazzle” ? “Jumping Jacks” ? Other ideas? for all other times of year! hahah. This was my test quilt with a random pull of assorted orange, red, and purple batiks. It looked so good in the snow.

Can you believe this quilt is made from only 9 blocks? They’re big and easy to piece. You can see how colors – or even a single solid – and placement really change the emphasis in the design. Do you have a favorite? There are also all kinds of possibilities for playing around with negative/positive shapes. All of my patterns come with a coloring page to help you plan your layout before cutting.

What would this post be if I didn’t show my original Felicity quilt pattern using Felicity Batiks?! Here are two versions…the only change is the background fabric.

Thanks for reading along! Hope you enjoy sewing with Felicity Batiks. If you make anything using this collection, please tag me on Instagram @katespain or share a post with me on Facebook. I’d love to see!
