Blockheads 4 ... Catching Up (again)!

Blocks 5, 6, 7 + Bonus Block 2

Hello Blockhead friends! How are your blocks coming along? Are you starting to see how colors are repeating as you lay out your blocks? I am! Are you using more of one color than another? I am! Looks like I’ve got some work to do to bring a little more balance into my scrappy version of this quilt. Keep reading to see what I mean…

Take Two (or more!) Steps Back

So here we are at Block 7 with two bonus blocks sewn up to complete this colorful grid! I love where this is going but already see some things I’d like to improve on in my next set of blocks. Whenever I take just a couple steps away from whatever I’m working on, obvious things that I may have overlooked up close tend to jump out at me from a distance. Does anything jump out at you? Squinting also helps. Take a minute :)

Yep, I seem to be leaning toward cool colors and especially that darkest purple from ‘Good Fortune’. I can see how repeating this color will help bring a bit of unity to the quilt in the end, but I don’t want this color to dominate. To balance the rich, boldness … I think I’ll make the next blocks with hues that are closer in value and more equally vibrant.

I also think I’ll re-do Anne’s block #4 and make the pinwheel all gold so the shape is better defined.

Do you have these kinds of dialogues with yourself too? Or am I just overthinking as usual?! lol

Scrap-busting!

As I mentioned in previous posts, I’m sewing from my stash which is so much fun! Sometimes I grab without looking, and sometimes I plan out the combinations. Either way, it feels great to put these scraps to use and to revisit these prints with a fresh eye. Can you name any of the collections you see here?

Barbara, Linzee, Lisa and Michelle’s blocks were so fun to make and each has so many possibilities depending on fabric placement. See you on Wednesday when I share my block! Can’t wait! XO, Kate
