Bite-Size Panel Fabric Envelopes

You’ll fall in love with this fun, quick and easy project! Use one bite-size fabric panel to make all these adorable fabric envelopes. One panel (plus lining fabric and optional interfacing) makes: 2 large + 4 small, 1 large + 8 small or 12 small envelopes. Before cutting, decide which size envelopes you’d like to make.

You will need:

1 – bite-size fabric panel
1 – 18” x 27” lining fabric OR
3- 9” x 18” strips
1 – 18” x 27” light fusible interfacing (optional, but adds a nice weight)
Snap/button/closure of your choice

To make a large envelope:

1. Choose one panel section for out-facing layer.

2. Select lining fabric. Iron interfacing to wrong side of lining fabric.

3. With right sides together, place outer layer on top of lining.
4. Fold outer layer in half lengthwise to find center point.

5. On left side, measure and mark 3” down from top edge. Draw line from center point to marked point.

6. Repeat on right side and cut on marked lines to create angled top edge.

7. Using a 1/4” seam allowance, sew all the way around the edge and leave a 2” gap to turn inside out.

8. Snip at all corners to reduce bulk, then turn inside out. Press.

9. Fold bottom up so it’s 2” from corner of triangle envelope flap.

10. Beginning at top right corner of folded edge, sew 1/8” from side seam all the way around the envelope.

It should look like this. I added an extra stitch line across the top edge as well.

11. Add a button or snap to close flap

To make a small envelope:

Cut one panel section into 4 equal pieces that measure 4 1/2” x 9”. Follow all instructions for large envelope except in Step 5, measure and mark 2” from top edge. Then in Step 9, fold up to 1” from corner triangle.

Fill with love and poetry!!
