New! Our Spoonflower Shop

For some time, I've been asked about reprinting your favorite fabric collections. Most recently, someone reached out hoping to find a specific print from 'Canyon' on heavier cotton twill so she could make seat cushions. This was such a fun idea and I really wanted to figure out how to help her.

I'd known about Spoonflower from several other Moda designers who have shops on the site, but had never tried it out myself... so... I uploaded the design she wanted, color-corrected it to match the original as closely as possible and was so impressed after washing the fabric, that I ended up adding the entire collection to see what it looked like. Then couldn’t stop and added "terrain' too!

A few tips/pros/cons if you decide to order:

  • When the fabric arrives, it feels stiffer than regular quilting cotton. Not to worry, it will soften after washing.

  • Be sure to pre-wash before using - it'll shrink a tiny bit. I ordered the panel on "Petal Signature Cotton" and the squares were 6" before washing and 5 7/8" afterward. Different substrates may shrink a little more/less than others -I'm still exploring

  • I learned from a FB friend and savvy Spoonflower user that the "Organic Cotton Sateen" is the closest hand-feel to regular quilting cotton.

  • It's a little pricier than regular quilting cotton, but you can customize based on what you need, choose different substrates, order a sample and ... find some otherwise out-of-print fabrics!

If there's a collection or a specific print from a collection you'd like me to add, drop a note in the comments. Have you always loved a print from Central Park but wished it was coral instead of orange? We can make that happen! Questions? Drop those below too or send me an email.

Happy sewing!

XO,

Kate
