Blooming Pillow

Finished my blooming pillow! The block construction is from my "Blizzard" quilt pattern, but I winged the design to make it into a big, fun flower using some colorful fabric from my stash. Is there a quilt pattern you already have that you might want to experiment with?

This was the first corner block I made trying out some gentle curves and irregular stripes and thinking about the beautiful petals I encounter in my garden. More progress in the photo on the right.

A creative mess!

I followed my friend Sherri's excellent and easy to follow tutorial for how to make a pillowcase with a cute hidden zipper flap on the back. Thank goodness for that because if you're like me, zippers can turn out a little wonky so at least I don't have to look at it!

So nice not to look at the zipper on the back! It’s hidden under that cute little flap.

I picked a fun zipper color that picks up on one of the colors from the pillow front.

I quilted the front before assembling and used a bright green backing color so it'd make for a peek-a-boo surprise on the inside.

I love the springtime happy it adds to our living room.

Maybe try making one in your favorite flower colors??

Happy Spring!
